About the Confederation Trail
The Confederation Trail is a great asset to PEI and provides a wonderful, car free cycling experience. However, the Trail does cut through the inland heart of PEI and seldom offers the stunning ocean vistas or visits the quaint seaside villages that only our rural roads can provide. It is our opinion that the best cycling experience and the best chance to really get to know our Island is to cycle our rural roads and utilize the Trail only where it makes the most sense. Of course, if you're a trail rider or need to avoid traffic altogether, then the Trail is your best option.

Choose from our selection of high quality rental bikes, trailers and tandem bicycles with a choice of standard or extra large panniers to carry your luggage. We offer and strongly recommend emergency road repair service for those of you who aren't mechanically inclined (or if you don't take your personal parts supply on tour)!
Where Do I Stay? If coming in July or August, we recommend advance reservations. When making your reservations, don't forget you'll want to be near your evening meal.
For a 6-night tour, here's a sample itinerary based on Inns and B&B accommodations (with cumulative mileage):
Night 1 Night 2 Night 3 Night 4 Night 5 Night 6 |
45 km 109 km 156 km 209 km 236 km 268 km |
28 mi 68 mi 97 mi 130 mi 147 mi 166 mi |
O'Leary area Summerside Hunter River Mt. Stewart St. Peters Souris |
We recommend the following accommodations, listed from west to east. Additional listings may be found online at www.peiplay.com.
Notes: We strongly recommend diverting from the trail to take advantage of varied scenery, taking in heritage roads and scenic byways where available. The trail condition varies, and in some areas the surface might be considered better for walking than cycling. In these cases, simply take an alternative or parallel route to arrive at your destination. PEI has more roads per square kilometer than any other province in Canada. You're sure to find one that suits you!
