Routes

View a downloadable/printable cycling route, a sample of what we provide in advance for each day of your cycling itinerary. We upload all route links to your Final Itinerary after the final balance has been paid. Default access is set to private. They're available for download in the following formats:
GPX KML TCX FIT JPG GIF PNG PDF

To view, print and download your routes (set for private access only in our account), you'll need to:
a) Sign up for a free account in Plotaroute.
b) PENDING: Your Plotaroute name(s): __________
Send us the name(s) of those members of your party (as registered with Plotaroute) who will require access.
We'll follow designated user(s) in Plotaroute and, once your final balance is paid, open access up for all cycling routes we've plotted for your trip. That private access will remain open until the conclusion of your journey.
You can upload GPX files to your Android/iOS devices and view offline using the BikeGPX app.

If, for any reason, you are unable to print routes and require us to assist with that task, kindly advise at least 2 weeks in advance so that we can assign a staff member to that job. Our administrative fee for formatting and printing plotted routes is $5 CAD+ HST/route X # of routes X # of copies you require.
Ex: if your tour entails 6 days of cycling and you require 2 sets of printed routes/maps, then the fee would be $5 X 6 X 2 = $60.00 CAD + HST.

About Prince Edward Island

About Prince Edward Island

Prince Edward Island is Canada's smallest province, nestled between the eastern maritime provinces of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The large island, about 273 kms from tip to tip, is marked by red-sand beaches, lighthouses, and fertile farmland, and is renowned for seafood like lobster and mussels. Charlottetown, the capital, is home to Victorian government buildings & the modern Confederation Centre of the Arts, with a theatre and art gallery.

Eating & Drinking in PEI

Eating & Drinking in PEI

Local tip #1: PEI has many seasonal food operations, especially outside of its urban centers. If traveling before/after high season, before embarking on your ride without a backup plan, you'll want to check online or with your host (or direct with the operator) to be 100% sure your lunch or dinner destination will be open. Some spots are experiencing staff deficits and may close early if it's rainy/slow. Inns are also your best source of intel on where to indulge in Island fare, so don't afraid to inquire before/during your stay. Your Final Itinerary will include helpful daily suggestions of local venues to check out. When you're cycling, it's best to be prepared. Eat before you're hungry, drink before you're thirsty and rest before you're tired.

In honor of former innkeepers David & Michelle Thompson, longtime supporters of our Island and Cuba cycling businesses. we share this story about Dalvay.

Day 3

Dining Options

Dining Options

Dalvay features fine dining and cocktails on site at the MacMillan Restaurant. If you're looking for something a little less formal, there's always Richard's Fresh Seafood, the best local seafood shack, right at the Covehead Wharf. Their secret sauce is pretty great. You can also slurp down fresh oysters next door. Picnic tables abound, and the beach is just across the road.

Cycle Dalvay to Savage Harbour loop

Cycle Dalvay to Savage Harbour loop

Today a loop will take you around Tracadie Bay, back onto the Confederation Trail to pass the Abegweit First Nation community in Scotchfort and through the community of Mount Stewart where there are a number of U-pick berry operations in the summer. From here, head north to French Village & Savage Harbour. Then your loop heads back hugging the coastline, past Blooming Point Beach (watch out for nudists hiding in the dunes!) and the Glenaladale House with its rich rumrunning lore. There's a nature conservation project in the area. Return to Dalvay, or loop over to Richard's Fresh Seafood at the Covehead Wharf for some favorite Island fare.

Distance: 67.7 km
Ascent: 485 m Descent: 485 m Terrain: Mixed
Route link (available for confirmed participants only)

Looking for less mileage?
Option 1: Skip the Confederation Trail and go North in Tracadie Cross. Just cycle as far as Blooming Point and head back either the way you came, or get truly off the beaten path on the (dirt) Afton or Old Bedford Roads. That's the beauty of loop rides - on alternate days you can bike as much (or as little) as you want.
Option 2: Ride the trail to Mount Stewart & back in the reverse direction.

Looking for more mileage?
Option 3: From Mount Stewart go south, have lunch at Peakes Tee and head over to check out the Dromore hiking trail before looping back to Dalvay.
