Tour Tips & Things to Bring
- All international travellers must carry acceptable identification when entering Canada. A passport is the universally-accepted travel or identification document when in a foreign country.
- Dress is casual. Evenings are almost always cool on the Island, so bring a long-sleeved shirt or sweater.
- Cycle clothing should include padded shorts/tights, quick-drying jerseys (lycra recommended but cotton will suffice), Drytex socks, stiff-soled shoes, cycle gloves, rain gear.
- As the law requires helmet use by cyclists on PEI roads, a free one is included with your MacQueen’s rental bike. Some travelers prefer using their own helmet, saddle and clipless pedals/shoes. There’s no charge to switch out pedals or saddles on our rental bikes.
- Phone/camera, batteries, chargers
- Sunscreen & sunglasses
- Insect repellant, especially if stopping in wooded areas
- Your navigational device or bike cell phone holder (the Delta and the Cyclotron upgrade, with its integrated power bank, are available as MacQueen’s bike rental add-ons).
- Taking an independent bike journey? Be prepared with basic tools/supplies. Consider bringing spare tubes, small bottle of chain lubricant. Each rental booking with MacQueen’s includes a maximum of 1 courtesy emergency repair kit (1 tube or patch kit, tire levers, multi-tool and pump).
Are you embarking an Island Walk or Confederation Trail journey?
Remember, unlike our Supported Independent cycling tours of Eastern PEI, the bicycle trips we offer on the established Island Walk or Confederation Trail active traveler routes exclude Emergency Road Repair Insurance, since the territory’s too large for us to cover in-house. When discovering PEI on an Island Walk or Confederation Trail journey with MacQueen’s, or if you’ve opted not to rent equipment from MacQueen’s on another of our journeys, we recommend considering packing an extra pump(s) and/or purchasing extra tube(s) as backup for your unsupported trip, especially when traveling in a larger group. While MacQueen’s tour guests who are less mechanically-inclined are welcome to reference our list of PEI technical bicycle support options by county, it’s always better to be prepared with tools/tubes than stranded far from supplies, mechanics and an alternative means of transport.
